I love being an eye surgeon! It's extremely challenging and rewarding. I love getting to know my patients (you) and spending time with you during all the pre- and post-operative visits. I personally had horrible vision growing up. Without glasses or contacts, I couldn't see the wall at the other end of the exam room, let alone the eye chart! After having artificial lenses placed in my eye, I appreciate how much a 15 minute procedure can change your life. It brings me joy to be able to do the same for others. I knew at the age of 7 I wanted to be a doctor. The time I spend with you before, during, and after surgery is me literally living my childhood dream and I am grateful every day for that opportunity. But, if you were to ask, being an eye surgeon is just my job, not who I am.
The following pictures make me more proud than all the diplomas and awards sitting on my wall. If you're going to trust me enough to perform a complex surgery, often using both hands and both feet at the same time, you deserve to know a little more about me...

I was born in Amarillo, TX and come from a long line of Texans (ancestors were given original tracts of land to settle Texas). I'm not Texas Proud or anything... I grew up in McKinney, TX (just north of Dallas). In 2007, I started undergrad at Brigham Young University. After my freshman year, I took off two years to serve a proselyting mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I served in the Riverside, CA area and learned/taught in Spanish. I returned home to BYU and finished my degree in Public Health with a minor Business Management, during which I taught Spanish for a couple of years, scrubbed toilets on the night shift to squeak by and met/married my best friend Aly. Aly grew up an Army brat, following Colonel (now Grandpa) John all around the US. She claims Alabama as "home" but is technically 1/2 Texan. We moved to Georgia for medical school (Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine-Georgia Campus). I completed by Ophthalmology Residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. I served as Chief Resident my last year, also when the YouTube Channel "The Eye Chiefs" began. Our first duty station after residency is here at Fort Campbell and we have loved every minute of living in Tennessee. Somewhere between college and now we've managed to have 5 little ones. They are our pride and joy. We love watching them grow too quickly. O
We love being a military family. There are a lot of things that frustrate me about working in the military (I'm sure to mention something during one of our appointments on accident), whether it be the inefficiency, slow computers or the 7 programs I have to use just to book someone for surgery. But I absolutely love wearing the uniform and feel blessed to be part of a great heritage. I truly am honored to take care of you and your family. You may have to wait long (which kills me) and you may have several appointments that really should all be one appointment, but I hope you know and feel how important my patients are to me.
